Specifications for iridium spark plugs NGK BKR9EIX

Regardless of your application or engine configuration, choosing the right spark plug is very important. Iridium is a very heavy and dense metal, which means that NGK spark plugs last longer than OEM spark plugs, lasting more than 100,000 km under normal use.

Which heat range should I choose?

While the letters (e.g. BKR-EIX) indicate the shape and thread size of the spark plug, the numbers (from 6 to 9) indicate the heat rating, essentially how well the spark plug performs under extreme conditions. The higher the number, the "colder" the spark plug is and better suited for tuned engines and sport use. A cold spark plug is designed to function at above-average temperatures and dissipate heat in the cylinders. This improves combustion, performance and engine reliability and reduces the risk of detonation.

However, be sure to only install cold spark plugs if your car requires them, otherwise you may experience problems such as difficult cold starts and rough idling. Also, do not install cold spark plugs if your engine runs on E85 fuel. In short:

  • BKR6EIX: Standard quality, for standard engine and standard use or E85 fuel
  • BKR7EIX: one level colder than standard, for slightly tuned or sporty engines, both on the road and on the racetrack
  • BKR8EIX: two levels colder than standard, for tuned and powerful engines that are mainly used on the racetrack
  • BKR9EIX: three levels colder than standard, for high performance and heavily modified engines used in extreme conditions
